Our unusual name reflects our philosophy of helping others.

Mothers help and protect us.  The hippo represents not only Togo but is sacred to African traditions.  Hippo wisdom includes healing, protection of family, birth of new ideas, AND mother-fury when needed.

With that in mind, MOTHER HIPPO'S central aim is to raise awareness and encourage people to take action on the harmful and outmoded practices of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), forced child marriages and gender-based violence.

 

MOTHER HIPPO's goal is to eradicate FGM for the next generation.
